Hendrick Hudson School District (HHSD), in Westchester County, New York, had been using SASI for six years and needed to update to an integrated system with great communication tools, single-point data entry, and an integrated grade book and health module. Challenges
HHSD experienced problems with SASI because it was not an integrated system. With each school storing data in its own database, information was entered inconsistently, inevitable human errors were common and access to information was cumbersome.
The absence of an integrated portal limited efficient communication with families and depended on expensive and time consuming mailings and telephone calls.
Because the legacy system was not a relational database, easy access to data and reporting formats were limited. State reporting required tedious staff hours to extract and collate information from each school.
“We faced a major challenge with SASI and realized there were more current, robust systems on the market. Infinite Campus was the best one for our district,” said Mathew Swerdloff, HHSD Director of Technology.
Solution
Infinite Campus is built using multiple tier architecture, allowing the system to incorporate new technology advancements, and allows customers to adapt quickly to changing K12 educational needs. By separating the various pieces of architecture, Infinite Campus can quickly provide product enhancements, entirely new functionality or district-specific customizations.
“With Infinite Campus, we could start with a smaller set of functionality and grow to more sophisticated and custom features as needed,” said Swerdloff. “We can use the ongoing development enhancements to more fully use the product when we’re ready. It’s great for a district like ours with a limited staff.”
Infinite Campus has a group of dedicated specialists who monitor any changes in state and federal reporting mandates and bring HHSD’s system in sync with new requirements without any disruption of daily operations.
“I know Infinite Campus is at the table with the state and I feel confident that we will have what we need when we need it. With Infinite Campus, state reporting has become much less of a burden than with our previous system.”
Additionally, Custom Computer Services (Custom), an Infinite Campus Channel Partner, provides the training, service and support for HHSD and other Campus customers in the northeastern states.
“Custom has been great. We’ve needed a lot of special reporting set up and they did that for us. They’ve provided us with training as we needed it and they are willing to come to our site when we need them,” said Swerdloff. “Working with Custom has enabled us to take greater advantage of the functionality of our Infinite Campus system.”
Results
“Absolutely, we get a return on our investment. Infinite Campus actually costs less than we were paying before and we get so much more functionality,” said Swerdloff.
“We eliminated the costs of several third party applications as these functions were a standard part of Infinite Campus. Our time and resources savings are huge. It’s the best system for us.”
