Responsible Data Use and Transparency

At Infinite Campus, we take the protection of student data seriously and we strive to provide schools with tools to transform K12 education and support student success. The information on this page is intended to help schools, students, and families understand how we comply with laws addressing the possibility of algorithmic discrimination and ensure responsible use of data in education.

Intended Use of the Early Warning System

The Campus Analytics Suite's Early Warning System is designed to help educators identify students who may be at risk of not graduating or being promoted to the next grade. It uses predictive analytics to generate a Graduation Related Analytic Data (GRAD) score based on factors such as attendance, behavior, academic performance, and engagement. The GRAD score is a data-informed metric that provides insight into student trends and potential areas of need.

The system does not make decisions or recommendations regarding specific student outcomes. Instead, the GRAD score is intended to be used by educators in conjunction with other available information and professional judgment. Schools and districts retain full discretion over how the information is used, and the score is only one of many inputs that may be considered.

Risks of Discrimination and Mitigation Efforts

Infinite Campus recognizes the risk of algorithmic discrimination, including disparate impact based on protected characteristics. To mitigate these risks, the system is designed with transparency, explainability, and human-in-the-loop decision-making. Information that may directly enable discrimination, such as student race, ethnicity, and gender, is excluded from the model’s evaluation criteria.

Educators are encouraged to use GRAD scores as one input among many when evaluating student needs. Because the system produces a metric rather than an automated outcome, any potential for inadvertent bias is further mitigated through educator review, context, and intervention planning. The system includes dashboards that highlight contributing factors to each score, supporting informed and equitable decision-making.

Understanding and Monitoring Outputs

Schools can monitor GRAD scores through sortable dashboards and detailed student profiles. Each score is accompanied by contributing factors and trend data over time. Watchlists and filters allow educators to track specific student groups. Data can be exported for further analysis. Infinite Campus provides documentation and support to assist schools in completing impact assessments and understanding system outputs and conducting any required impact assessments.

Risk Management

Infinite Campus makes the Early Warning System available as part of its Campus Analytics Suite and manages risks of discrimination through continuous evaluation, bias testing, and user training. Because the system generates informational metrics rather than automated decisions, responsibility for any actions taken based on the data remains with the school or district. This approach reinforces human oversight and ensures that the tool supports, rather than determines, student-related decisions.
