A chat with Mary Pigott and Allison Byrd

Mary Pigott, IT Application Specialist
Allison Byrd, Director of Data, Research, and Assessment

Educating more than 5,000 students each day requires technology that keeps information connected and accessible. With Infinite Campus, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights (CH-UH) City School District has a centralized student information system that supports staff, students, and families.

Members of the district’s Data, Research, and Assessment team share how they maximize Infinite Campus and the impact it has on their school community.

When evaluating a new SIS for the district, what stood out about Infinite Campus?

Allison: I was a middle school assistant principal at the time and part of the team evaluating SIS options. What stood out about Infinite Campus was its robust capabilities, ease of use, and comprehensive functionality. Our team also valued the ability to truly own our data – not just the front-end user but the behind-the-scenes navigation and data schema. Those were capabilities we didn’t have with our previous, antiquated system.

What are your favorite Infinite Campus features?

Allison: I’m loving the newer interface – it seems much more intuitive than the classic look and navigation. As we’ve grown, the wants and needs from other departments and users have evolved. All the add-on features have been beneficial. I appreciate the evolution I’m seeing and how users can access information.

Mary: My favorite feature would have to be the customization available because it really helps us serve students and families. I’m excited by the potential of Infinite Campus in general and just how much we can do. I love that they are willing to continually improve and add more features.

How has Infinite Campus impacted your parents and students? Have your teachers or administrators seen increased engagement through the portal or mobile apps?

Mary: We have seen a big increase in Campus Parent app usage over the last few years. Our superintendent led a campaign encouraging families to use the parent portal and sign up for related accounts. Roughly 84-85% of district households – at least one guardian per household – have a parent portal account.

Allison: That was a difference maker. The goal is 100%, but we did not want to automatically create an account for each person that just ends up sitting idle. If they take action to create the account, they’re more likely to actively use it.

A few years ago, we looked and found our most active users on the student side were middle schoolers. They were logging in to check grades consistently. We actually use this group as a way to encourage our high school kids to take action and check out Campus Student.

Mary: Infinite Campus is flexible and allows us to add such valuable information in the portal to keep families informed and engaged.

Allison: Teachers and other staff members are now able to see (internally) the view that students and parents have when they’re in the mobile apps or web portal. It’s a huge bonus when they are communicating with that group.

Describe the value of accessing all Campus tools in a single solution.

Allison: Our team motto is: we want to make it easy for people to do the right thing. Having an SIS that is the access point for multiple features makes it easy for people to do the right thing.

A single solution also supports training, because again, they’re not going and clicking into multiple tools. We each only need a single login.

Which Add-on Products have made the biggest impact on your district?

Mary: I’ve spent a lot of time with Online Registration (OLR) and have really come to love it. I find value in having so much of our district data filter directly through the tool. We have the ability to customize it to what we want, and it helps to organize the data and keep it clean.

Allison: This question is challenging because the integration of some of the Add-on Products is so clean it’s hard to determine what is additional and what is part of the overall product.

We’re able to use all products to work efficiently and easily. Each tool helps us reach our goal of making it easy to do the right thing.

How would you rate the level of emphasis Infinite Campus places on fostering product innovation?

Allison: Campus shows a great level of responsiveness to what users need. This builds a level of trust that is really important, and what Campus has demonstrated through not only the product, but the people they hire, is that they’re listening.

Describe your experience connecting with the Infinite Campus support team.

Mary: Tell my best friends I said ‘Hi.’ The thing I appreciate most is whenever I put in a question or ticket is...the lack of judgement. They’re just so kind, responsive, quick, and able to exude friendliness through tech tickets – it blows my mind. Ten out of ten. I’ve never had a bad experience.

If you were talking to a district looking to move to Infinite Campus, what would you tell them?

Allison: The customer service and responsiveness that we have received over the years have made it a high-quality partnership.

Mary: The system is very user-friendly and the integration is seamless. They keep improving the ability to connect directly to different programs and automate things. It’s a major benefit compared to other SIS platforms.

Transforming K12 Education® is the mission and vision of Infinite Campus. What would you tell other districts about Infinite Campus as a company?

Mary: The people work really hard to make sure we’re supported. The company works hard to make sure their product is efficient and easy for all users to navigate.

Allison: Ditto. It’s not just the tool, it’s our ability to leverage all the components of it, and that is based on the training and customer service we receive from the company. It’s people based, and I can say, for all different data systems we work with, Infinite Campus is hands down the best.
