Methuen Public Schools implemented Infinite Campus student information system (SIS) during the 2016-2017 school year to centralize their data and eliminate third-party programs. Serving 7,000 students in the state of Massachusetts, they’ve found that switching from iPass to Campus SIS allows them to customize their reporting capabilities and keep their data more organized.
One Central System
Methuen was previously using different software solutions for HR, Special Ed, Transportation, Student Assessment Data, Parent Surveys, Messenger and Teacher Evaluations. “Infinite Campus has become the solution for all of these systems,” said Ed Lussier, the district’s Director of Instructional Technology. “We have done away with the spreadsheet approach that many other departments had been using.”
Because Infinite Campus provides one comprehensive system with integrated features, data is entered once and immediately available across the district. “There are many benefits to having the data in one central location. Most notably, more accurate student data and we have seen a huge growth in our reporting capacity,” said Lussier. “For example…looking for a list of female fifth-graders who are on an IEP, have no medical conditions, scored a 240 on Math MCAS last year, and ride on bus 22 on Tuesday afternoon? No problem! It’s amazing to us that we have these reporting capabilities.”
Custom Reporting Options
Lussier said the ad-hoc features are outstanding, but he feels the greatest feature is the ability to quickly create custom fields and tabs when needed. “We have departments and groups who traditionally relied on paper documents, spreadsheets, or forms to collect data. Now with a few quick clicks, we can create customized fields/tabs to collect the same information.”
The district tracks all high school students’ community service hours on a custom tab. And they built a custom tab for teachers to report Tier I student behavior issues & resolutions as part of their PBIS programming. Admins can now generate focused, monthly reports, including on which types of behaviors are being reported most frequently.
Keeping Parents Involved
The district also appreciates the Campus Portal and Mobile App that allows parents and students to have immediate access to grades, attendance, assignments and schedule information. Parents and students can login from any device, anywhere, at any time, which helps increase communication with teachers and staff.
The Infinite Campus award-winning support team works directly with authorized district personnel to understand the unique challenges and issues of customers. “Support has been outstanding. It’s nice to be able to speak with someone when needed!”
