How the Two Systems Work Together
The Infinite Campus statewide data collection system is the first step in creating a reporting and analysis system. The two systems, ICSE and ICDE, combine numerous data management functions into an integrated system for ease in accessing state-level data for reporting and analysis.

Campus Environment

The Infinite Campus is a place where staff, parents, and students use the system to streamline educational processes and work more efficiently to improve individual student achievement. This diagram highlights a district and how it connects to others including state departments of education, other district, support, and hosting.

It’s All About the Data
The most important part of a statewide data collection system is the integrity and breadth of the data collected. Any information management system, be that the supply chain, financial or a student information system, relies on the extent and reliability of the data being entered into the system. Data gathering using best practices for data entry lays the groundwork for an effective statewide system.

Infinite Campus understands this. ICDE was developed from the beginning to provide a centralized way to collect and manage student data. By eliminating islands and silos of student information, Infinite Campus extends its comprehensive student information system efficiently collect data needed by the state for reporting and data analysis/visualization.

Infinite Campus manages the student information being entered by various entities as pieces of data to be used again and again to benefit all within the K12 system. For example, demographic elements entered at enrollment time by district front-office staff can be reused to populate teacher grade books, attendance rosters and special education learning plans.

Subject data experts, the teachers, clerks, and guidance counselors, can then access the demographic data through an intuitive interface on a Mac or PC through a standard Web browser. This gives district data experts access to the system in their classrooms, offices, and homes using their current computer system to input additional information on each student such as grades, attendance, and learning plans.

Horizontal Integration
Through the horizontal integration created across the district by using Infinite Campus, districts benefit from improved workflow, a repository of comprehensive data, and the ability to communicate with stakeholders. The district is provided a database of information from each of its users, buildings, supporting systems like food service and third-party applications.

District-level users also benefit from improved workflow and the ability to access the data in real time from across the district. Best practices established by the state for entering data assure that the data is being consistently entered so it can be used without rework and with confidence. With Infinite Campus, information no longer needs to be re-entered or uploaded – it’s available in real time when district staff needs to access it.

By having a centralized district repository of student information, administrators can use this transactional data for analysis and reporting for data-driven decision making.

Districts can also use their Infinite Campus data to communicate more effectively and more often with parents, staff or external stakeholders. Keeping stakeholders involved through informative letters, emails, voicemails, notices and the Web helps to improve the educational experience for each student.

Vertical Interoperability
Infinite Campus provides vertical integration between the state, its districts and ICDE-using districts the ability to interoperate. The state system assigns unique student identifiers (IDs), detects enrollment overlaps, streamlines district-to-district transfers and eliminates state reporting.

Unique student IDs are generated individually or in batches by the state system. These IDs then remain with the student from enrollment through graduation.

Enrollments are tracked in real time which detects overlapping records so they can be corrected as they occur, as opposed to the end of the year. Your state can configure this to meet your specific needs.

District-to-district student transfers are simplified when states and their districts use Infinite Campus. If the student is found in the within a district, the existing record is recalled and can be used by the new district. If the student is found in a non-Infinite Campus district within the state, directory information (i.e. state reporting info) is loaded into the new district’s system and a student’s record request is sent to the district where the student was last enrolled.

ICSE then uses district information combined with non-Infinite Campus district data to compile needed reports. Infinite Campus using districts would no longer be required to undertake state reporting since the state will have all of the required information they need to do reporting available at their fingertips in real time.

Non-Infinite Campus using districts will still be required to import state reported data into the state system. States quickly come to realize the value of using Infinite Campus across their districts since they can obtain much more robust and accurate student data. It saves time and energy spent reporting at the district level while giving data analysts more time to evaluate data to submit more accurate reports resulting in additional funding for the state’s schools.

Infinite Campus puts the power of an integrated statewide data system as a significant building block for your state’s longitudinal data system. By connecting users, buildings, and districts, Infinite Campus provides the only statewide data collection system available on the market today.
