The Campus SIF Agent and Zone Integration Server (ZIS) are known as a Data Integration Server (DIS) at Infinite Campus. Why? The Campus DIS emulates both ZIS routing and SIF agent communications for true data integration. The Campus DIS is like a ZIS on steroids and the Campus DIS doesn't require an additional hardware investment which saves additional technology expenses.

The typical ZIS acts only as a traffic cop accepting/rejecting data as long as it has been told that it can accept a particular SIF agent request. Why is this a problem? Let’s say a user requests demographic data to populate a library system from the SIS. The library sends a request via the library’s SIF agent to the SIS’s ZIS traffic cop which approves the request. The ZIS then allows the data requested – ALL OF THE DATA AVAILABLE – to be sent to the library system.

The typical ZIS cannot tell the difference between a request for new student demographic data inputted over the last week and the entire database of student demographic data. See a problem?

The Campus DIS data-scoped routing capability lets users request Campus data to populate third-party applications for a specific timeframe. Users don’t have to be concerned about receiving the entire historical SIS database and causing their network and servers to be overwhelmed. IT professionals can breathe easier.

The Campus DIS can also be set up to directly communicate with other Campus DIS through its unique embedded zone topology providing seamless integration with other Campus users in a region or state. The Campus DIS is what enables Campus district-to-district transfers and student ID assignment. In addition, this is the technology that enables Campus Food Service data to communicate with the point-of-sale terminals located in the cafeteria in real time.
